Jay Z may be the richest human on the planet in the spouse department, but when it comes to estimated financial worth, Forbes—our culture’s aggregator of people wealthier than we are—reveals that two hip-hop artists are higher up on the list. Forbes reports that that the honors go to Puff Daddy and his estimated $700 million fortune, and Dr. Dre and his approximately $550 million net worth. According to the magazine, Sean “P. Diddy” Combs, or whatever the kids are calling him these days, is inching closer to billionaire status thanks to a majority stake in Revolt TV, the new multi-platform cable network and his partnership with Ciroc, which “entitles him to eight-figure annual payouts.” (You know, just like you get each year.) Dr. Dre, meanwhile, has accumulated over half of a billion dollars in worth thanks, in part, to his eponymous headphone empire, Beats by Dr. Dre, which recently received a $500 million investment from the Carlyle Group.
Jay Z falls just short of Dre with an estimated $520 million worth, which was boosted by his $204 million sale of Rocawear, in 2007, and the value of Roc Nation, the entertainment company he founded in 2008.
